- allow content (Concepts, Tasks, References, etc.) to be organized for output and publication. DITAmaps provide links to internal and external content, holders for metadata, hierarchy, and allow relationship tables that create dynamic information sets.

- is a special kind of DITAmap that provides special mechanisms for markup of book content.
