What is a Reference

Short description of what a Reference is in relation to DITA.

DITA uses three main file types: Concept, Task, and Reference file types.

A Reference
is a file type that is meant to stand on its own. It provides "just the facts" and can be used in a Concept or Task, however, it may not always be linked to those Concepts or Tasks, so it needs to be self-explanatory. A Reference file type might contain a company address, for example.
